College is about a lot of things, but most crucially, it’s about discovering who you are and what you’re interested in. At the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University, we’re committed to helping you do just that.
As a college for women and a college for men, CSB and SJU have their own campuses, residence halls, athletic programs and traditions. Each is committed to serving the unique needs of the gender it represents, and together, offering you a one-of-a-kind co-ed experience.

Athletics and Recreation
CSB/SJU are proud NCAA Division III schools in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. In addition to our 23 varsity athletic programs, we offer club sports and intramurals for students looking to get involved, try something new or continue a sport they love. Students can also enjoy an impressive variety of outdoor and campus recreation opportunities to stay active and adventurous.
Career Development
You’ll have access to all sorts of resources and a tight network of support as you prepare for your next steps after college. In addition to an academic advisor who knows your name and your goals, our Experience & Professional Development (XPD) department will help you with career readiness or preparations for graduate school. We’re so committed to student success that we’re ranked the #1 and #2 colleges in Minnesota for getting a job.
Involvement and Leadership
There’s so much to see and do, it’s no wonder nearly all students stay on campus over the weekends. With more than 100 student clubs and organizations, plus music ensembles, theater, volunteer opportunities, student government and so much more, there’s something for everyone at CSB/SJU. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, we’ll show you how to start your own group.
Residential Life
As a Bennie or Johnnie, you’ll have the opportunity to live on campus all four years in housing that grows with you. Whether you’re in a residence hall or an on-campus apartment, you’ll be immersed in a fun, vibrant culture that helps you become your best self. The best part? Studies show that students who live on campus are more satisfied with their college experience and get better grades. You’ll also graduate with a strong sense of community and relationships you’ll keep for life.
Counseling, Health and Wellness
The idea of a balanced, fulfilling life is not new to CSB/SJU. Under the overarching Benedictine values of our founders, we’ve historically focused on providing transformative experiences that enable students to reach their full potential intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically. A wide variety of approaches to wellness exist for students — from counseling services and peer programs to medical referral services and health information and resources — inside and outside the classroom, students experience a holistic approach to promoting health in body, mind and spirit.
Multicultural Student Services
CSB/SJU believes that learning to effectively navigate differences and new environments is an essential part of a liberal arts education. Multicultural Student Services empowers and educates students to intentionally develop mutually trusting and culturally agile relationships through clubs, workshops and connections to important resources.
Faith and Spiritual Life
The Catholic character of CSB and SJU is shaped by the Benedictine communities that founded the colleges in the 19th century and continue to foster Benedictine Catholic values in the academic, spiritual and social life of the colleges. Today, Benedictine women and men remain actively involved in teaching and administration, and their prayerful presence in community life provides the stable sense of home for which CSB and SJU are so well known.
